Food Allergies | Inhalants
Laboratory service for determining specific IgE antibodies to food or inhalant allergens.
What are Allergies?
Allergic phenomena arise from an abnormal reaction of our immune system, which recognizes as harmful substances that under normal conditions are completely harmless (called allergens).
This reaction causes the production of IgE antibodies, which can lead to the appearance of symptoms such as:
Skin rashes or eczema,
Hives and itching,
Difficulty breathing,
Nasal congestion,
Swelling of the lips or mucous membranes,
Watery eyes.
In more severe cases, anaphylactic shock may also occur.
Our laboratory offers the choice between two specialized analysis panels:
Food Allergies (includes 23 different food allergens)
Inhalant Allergies (includes 35 different inhalant substances)
Test Principle
The test is performed using an immunoenzymatic method, which allows for the quantitative evaluation of specific IgE antibodies against each tested allergen (food or inhalant).
In allergic individuals who have not had recent contact with the respective allergen, the level of specific IgEs may decrease to undetectable levels, leading to a false negative result.
The analysis is performed in our specialized analysis laboratory in Italy.
